Right angle prisms

A prism is a translucent glass body which boundary surfaces is polished and reflected.  A prism serves for the detour of rays of light.
In the surveying one needs prisms, in order to mark right angles out or examine right angles to up-bend one point for a straight line and around itself into a straight line in aligning.  The most common angle prisms are the doublepentagon and the cross visor.  The angle prisms have a hole or a groove at the lower end of the handle, in which a plumb bob cord can be inserted.
