Regulations for papers and talks
(changes to printed version in red)

1. Students ought to write approx. one page of text for their talks.
2. A word processor has to be used for this.
3. This paper should include a summary and an interpretation of the scene(s).
4. The interpretation should not only repeat the annotations from the book, but concentrate on the development of the drama and answer questions like: Is there a development? Do new characters appear? What is the function of the characters for the drama? Is there 'typical' male/female behaviour? (Remember what we said about gender roles in class 12.) Does the weather play a role in your scene? Can the motto of the drama ("Fair is foul, foul is fair") be found in your scene? Do the witches play a role in your scene? Does 'madness' play a role in your scene? Are there 'tragic' elements in your scene? If you do not know what 'tragedy' means, check here... Do the characters change or are they 'stereotypes'? Are there conflicts? The 'main idea' has to become clear! As usual, all your findings have to be backed up with quotations from the text.
5. A 'good' interpretation does not only look at the one scene, but at the function of the scene for the drama: Why is there a new scene/a new act? What is new in this scene? The structure of the drama has to become clear!
6. During your talk in class (approx. 10 minutes) the paper must not be used but keywords.
7. After the talks we shall watch a BBC production of Macbeth. The 'lecturers' will get a chance to explain in how far the actors have interpreted the drama 'correctly'.
8. Hand in your paper so that it can be marked.
9 . Mail the corrected version of the paper and a Teachmaster file of the important words to english(a)vermessungsseiten.de (The character (a) is used to avoid spamming. Use @ instead.)
10. There will be a discount of points (25 %) for mails that arrive later than the third Sunday after your talk.
11. There will be an 'overview test' on Macbeth.
12. Ask me, i.e. e-mail me at english(a)vermessungsseiten.de whenever you have a question.
